to transform an old pub in Hoxton, Hackney into an all-age Family Centre serving our inner city community by providing a 21st century building which will:
The architect's sketch to the left shows the new building wrapping round the old 'pub front' which is to be retained to comply with conservation requirements.
The main downstairs meeting room will have a capacity of 50-60 people and be capable of sub-division into two smaller rooms; on the 1st floor there will be a further meeting room (leading onto a balcony) and 2 offices.
Hackney is the second most deprived borough in England and Hoxton is among the top 2% of deprived wards, a staggering 49% of children in the area experience child poverty. The Ivy Street Centre in Hoxton has been working among families for the past 30 years.

We have conducted a number of community surveys and focus groups, speaking to over 150 local people of all ages, to identify the needs which the local community has identified.

'54 Ivy Street' is the home of the Ivy Street Family Centre, which has offered weekly drop-in sessions for local Hoxton families and their young children for 30 years.
The Ivy Street Centre was originally an old public house and was built in the early 1900's. In the 1960's it was acquired by Hoxton Community Projects, a project of the Probation Service aimed at supporting the local youth.

Hoxton is the most southerly part of the London Borough of Hackney and adjoins the City of London, Islington and Tower Hamlets.
The area is ethnically diverse with more than half of primary age children having English as a second language (compared to 11.6% nationally).
